Important Documents for an Elder Person to Possess

Although no one likes to think of death or incapacitation, individuals, especially elderly individuals should be prepared. There are several important documents for an elder person to have in their possession.

Separation

A separation constitutes the living apart of spouses. The spouses are not yet permitted to remarry because they are still legally married. The separation can be either legal or non-legal in nature. A legal separation generally refers to a separation that is ordered by a court.

In Loco Parentis

In loco parentis is Latin for "in place of a parent." A foster parent, a county custodial agency or a boarding school which is assuming the parental obligations for the minor, including protecting his/her rights, may be referred to as being in loco parentis.

School Discipline and Remedies

If it is established that a student was improperly subjected to school discipline there are various types of actions that the student may take.

Same-Sex Marriages

A same-sex marriage is defined as a marriage between two individuals of the same gender. The issue of same-sex marriages is a hotly debated topic. In the most recent election in the United States, more than ten states voted to amend their state constitution's and define a marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Most other nations do not recognize same-sex marriages as legally valid, nor do they allow them to occur.
